Herein lies the soul of old Sausalito. You will see the original houseboat and floating home communities, two historic ferry boats, art studios, wooden boat building shops and working boatyards. You will hear tales of the Beat Era, Houseboat Wars, famous artists and the building of the Libertyships. We will visit the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center and Arques School of Traditional Boat Building with their collection of traditional wooden boats, considered to be floating works of art. We also encounter an eclectic collection of older wooden boats including an infamous tugboat called the Go Getter. This tour ends with tea and cookies at the boat lettering shack next to the WWII shipways.
SOUTHERN TOUR
Herein lie the classic yachts, sailboats and cruisers. You will see an 1880 hay schooner replica, tug boats, an original houseboat community, and many historic vessels. You will hear tales of Galilee Harbor, Cass Marina, Dunphy Park and the 'anchor outs' as we move south to Sausalito Marine Ways. Pelican Yacht Harbor, Ark Row,Sausalito Yacht Harbor and finally to the Bird Sanctuary, home of the Bird Boats, found only in the San Francisco Bay.
